I made four DVD-R's in recent weeks on a Toshiba reader/writer linked to
my TV. They play fine on the TV, but, wanting to copy and adapt them for
play on my iPad Air, I found they wouldn't mount on my MacBook Pro 9,5
(2012) running OSX 10.9.5. No program will mount them (iTunes, VLC, DVD
Player, Handbrake), and Disk Utility detects three of them recorded at a
speed to accommodate four hours of content as DVD-R's and one recorded
for two hours' content as a DVD-RW but won't mount them. They are in
fact all four DVD-R's. When placed in the DVD slot, they trigger a
question as to what program should this blank DVD be opened with.
I tried mounting one on an older MacBook Pro, which runs OSX 10.6.8, and
got the same result. It contains an old version of Roxio Toast, and I
tried use Roxio to mount it, but Roxio only displayed an identification
of it as a DVD-RW and added the information 'unknown bus,'
I visited an Apple store Genius bar and got the information that this
seemed to be a third-party software or hardware problem beyond their
competence and followed up the suggestion to call Apl Care and got the
same conclusion after they had checked forums.
Does any one know of hardware and/or software that would be able to
mount such DVD's for editing, copying, and modification?
